Story

After a series of blasts force Beatrice Hicks and her family into their prepper bunker, they emerge to discover they are among the survivors of a nuclear apocalypse. Fighting against rogue groups and coping with deaths are just some of the adjustments Beatrice must make to survive, but how will she maintain her humanity after the blast?

Review

When I first read the synopsis I immediately thought about “The 100” TV show/book I thought it would be kind of like The 100 but I was wrong, it was nothing like The 100 thank god since I didn't want to be disappointed or write a bad review about it. I actually really liked the book and the idea of it, especially since it's about post-apocalypse one of my favourite genres.

The book focuses more on family and relationship than surviving the apocalypse which is why I gave it four stars than 5 stars you may think it's boring now that you know it focuses on family rather than surviving, but this book shows you the real importance of family and how it hurts so much when you lose someone so dear to you. You can feel Beatrice lose throughout the book, and I guess it focused more on family because it is kind of a prequel to the Sarah Perlmutter new trilogy. Its touches really heavy objects like religion, family and love.

The protagonist's point of view is really unique and what is more unique that the book start from the perspective of a ten year old which is new for a young adult book. The book is really a fast-paced and fun read you can finish it in two or three sitting or even one, the only reason why I didn't finish it in one sitting is because I had exams.

I would recommend this book to post-apocalypse fans or anyone who wants a fast-paced read to read on a train or an airplane.
